The frame mount with quick release is great for its easy on/off, and is super stable. I love the versatility of the system, allowing me to use on multiple bikes.
The Tailfin S Series is incredibly easy to install, and I'm amazed at how strong this thing is considering how light even the Aluminum version is. I would say I want one for each bike, but it's so easy to move back and forth that there is no need!
I have been happily using my set of heavy duty Tailfin panniers for more than a year now. I use them mostly for carting stuff back from shopping, but ordered the Aeropack add a little extra storage when bikepacking. The Trunk Top Bag is much easier to load than my handlebar roll bag was, and a more useful shape than my frame pack. When ordering, I forgot to mention that I had the original rack and so when the Trunk Top Bag came with hardware for the current rack, I contacted them via email. The replacement hardware arrived at my house even before I had a chance to send the other hardware back to Tailfin. (The old hardware works fine; the new rack and hardware looked to be even better.) I would recommend both the Panniers and Top Bag to anyone considering packs for their bike. They’re easy to take on and off, they seem impervious to water, and they look cool, too.
This equipment is justifiably expensive. You get what you pay for. From the look and feel of the rack and bags to how they actually perform, Tailfin have created a product that caters for those who demand the highest standards. The rack is a work of art, and is straightforward to fit. Lightweight, sturdy, simplicity; a beautifully engineered product. The panniers are also easy to assemble, and once packed and loaded they are quite solid. I rode this system off-road along forest gravel tracks and they were almost imperceptible. There was no rattle at all. I even dropped the bike off the path while posing it for a photo (it fell 10ft down a slope); the panniers and rack stayed in exactly the same place they should have done. They are absolutely solid. Between two side panniers and the top bag I managed to fit pretty much all of my outdoor gear that I'd normally take on a hike. There is around 60 litres available there. I ended up putting the tent across the handlebars in the Revelate Sweetroll, a very well designed piece of kit that Tailfin could do well to look into. Fitting and removing the panniers was fast; panniers and top bag are tight, but despite this I found it easy enough to locate the release clip to remove the panniers.
The only problem I had with the equipment was with the top bag. The fastener from the rack attaches to the seat post, but the seat post leans back and the seat overhangs the top of the post. This means there is only a limited amount of height that is afforded to the top bag. You kind of have to load it wedge-shaped. The top bag's front attachment point on the rack is right against the fastener to the seat post. To make the most of the capacity I needed in the top bag, I had to fasten the rack to the frame where it meets the seat post, so this gave me an extra bit of vertical room. It was also necessary to remove the seat post in order to fit the top bag, so tight was the space. I managed to get it all done, and the ride wasn't affected. However, I have my seat post quite high to start with. anyone riding low will lose space in the top bag simply because it is designed to fit right underneath the overhanging seat. This also meant the additional straps on the top bag that are for securing objects to it (like a tent, maybe) become redundant, since a large part of the top bag is squeezed under the back of the seat.
This is the only complaint. In all, I was very impressed with my purchase. The whole rack, pannier and top bag system is a lightweight, strong and very secure set up. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone concerned with saving weight while getting maximum performance. However, as others have noted in their reviews, the design of the whole system can be improved.
Happy with the all alloy X Three model for commuting and looking good without bags on. Eyelet mount configuration fit over existing fender hardware nicely and the third party pannier adaptors fit *insert popular name brand here* panniers great. Only issue was with setup when the U of the top stay near seat post attachment bent, this section is pretty thin so take care when mounting but does not see significant stress during use. Top stay will be slanted upward slightly on larger frame bikes but can be strapped below seat post collar if frame geo allows for it.
Honestly the best bike packing product out there. Can't wait for the extension so that I can load the bag properly
Really enjoy the Tailfin. Very sturdy and love the flexibility of being able to take it with you or not attach it when I don't need it. Handy on rainy commutes, of course.
The build quality of the alloy arch is top notch and even if the earlier models had sligthly defective rubber pads they sent out new ones to who ever needed them. Great company and A1 customer care.
As of november 2020, I'm still waiting on the extension for the series X top bag (not the AERO pack), It is a tight fit on my bike and I can't use the full volume of the bag since my saddle is a bit low. It has been in production but no news so far...
Also, I'd LOVE to see them take a crack at a front rack!
On this I found a good looking, versatile, low profile, easy to mount rack. Very low weight, nobody even notice it when I don't have the bag mounted and the capability to add 2 more cages bolted on the sides make it a top of the tier aluminium rack. I also got the top bag: good materials, feels very sturdy and stain resistant, a lot of belts going, only "but" is that it has a kinda weird grab on the hooks to the rack ,making you double check it every time and secure it with the back strap just to be sure it won't come off with the vibration.
Perfect for my needs. Seems to be very tough wearing so far, easy to use, with a pocket inside big enough to also store the work laptop when I need to work from home. Love the Tailfin quick release rack and trunk bag too.
It is just very well engineered stuff. I’m using the axle mounting. The rack & bag is de/attached in a minute and while riding you will forget about it because there is absolutely no movement nor sound from behind. Concentrate on riding further not your equipment!
Great product !!
This bag is superior to light pannier if you dont care about weight.
Its not heavy but light is lighter.
This even survives a crash so i love it.
I have now ridden with my aeropack several times on both road, gravel and MTB.
Using the axle adapators the pack can be fitted and removed in seconds and moved from one bike to another. Once on the bike the fitting is firm and there is no sway at all. The ride quality is excellent and even on my MTB over rough terrain I didn't notice the aeropack was there.
I also like the side mount points on the alloy aeropack which allow some additional side bags to be fitted if needed.
Overall the Tailfin system works flawlessly and I prefer it to having a large seat mounted bikepacking bag.
I definitely recommend this fantastic product and the service from the team at Tailfin is exceptional
After some staycations ride in Belgium in 2020, I think that this luggage rack is perfect for me. It fits all my bikes (Road, VTT and Gravel with adapted axes) !!!
I have 2 minor problems:
- the montage need to "force" a little to assembly all parts but it's then perfect,
- The rubber bumper comes off and no longer protects the arches with the Ortlieb paniers (not Tailfin).
but Tailfin contacted me directly with a solution as they also found this problem.
A durable solution is on the way...
Thanks a lot Tailfin
A French in Belgium
I purchased the Tailfin S3 (alloy arch with bosses on the arch sides) with the truck rack. Everything mounted up perfectly and is very high quality. I've done a few rides with this setup and some gear but hope to test it on a full on bikepacking trip soon. So far, very solid, no rattling and easy to install and remove. I love it.
I've used the bag a few times for short errands etc, fits a surprising amount in. Going to be using it for an overnight tour soon. Build quality is great, super solid when on the bike, no wobbles or noise. Ended up getting the thru-axle mount after I received the bag, as the frame adapters didn't really work with my bike frame (not a Tailfin issue). Tailfin support were very accommodating.
AeroPack Trunk Bag Light Mount (Seat Post Mimic)
Thanks for all.
I had been looking for a rack system for my road bike (which has no rack-mounts) for my 20 mile each way commute and eventually came across the AeroPack. It is such an ingenious, elegant, well thought out and solidly engineered solution for carrying luggage. Simple to assemble (with tailfin's informative and clear on-line tutorial) and easy to use, it has transformed my commute - no more sweaty back from a rucksack! It is super stable, rock solid and quiet you really don't no its there.
I debated getting the version with pannier mounts but eventually went with the minimalist carbon version, no regrets - super lightweight, easy to pack and will accommodate a change of clothes along with spares, tools, pump, etc. I have also managed to fit in a 13 inch laptop!
It is also quick and easy to take on and off so I can use the bike for evening training rides, I could also transfer it to my summer bike should I need to - its is pricey but this versatility along with its high quality and functionality make it worth the cost and it feels like it will last. Tailfins customer service is also first class.
My only request would be for additional reflective panels or perhaps a hi-viz version...?
In all a fantastic product which I highly recommend
Simply excellent bit of kit, easy to attach and rock solid once on.
Does everything I wanted and more.
For the price is a bargain and I can see it lasting years.
